Caralluma Fimbriata Weight Loss

Caralluma Fimbriata Weight Loss

The exotic sounding weight loss ingredient is overlooked in the western world, in fact its likely that many of us have never heard of it, but can it really help you lose weight?

caralluma fimbriata extractCaralluma Fimbriata is a plant belonging to the cacti family that is native to India, though can also be found in other countries including Canary Islands, Saudi Arabia and Southern Europe.

Commonly referred to as the ‘Indian Hoodia’, it makes a welcome replacement to the original Hoodia Gordonii.

Hoodia Gordonii was extremely popular with dieters but has since been banned in the UK and the EU due to lack of evidence on its efficacy.

The Caralluma extract has been used for thousands of years, particularly in India for its natural appetite suppression used in India for many centuries as a way of naturally suppressing appetite – tribes would chew chunks of raw caralluma on their long hunts to stop them feeling hungry.

It was also used to help quench thirst and boost energy and endurance.

Today, Caralluma is used in a more sophisticated way to help weight loss. Chemicals are taken from the plant to produce an extract that suppresses the appetite that are then added to weight loss supplements.

Its also still very commonly used in Indian cooking as a vegetable, raw and cooked. Its also included in chutney and pickles.

How Does Caralluma Fimbriata Work?

Caralluma Fimbirata contains a phytochemical called pregnane glycosides that helps to block the enzyme citrate lyase.

Caralluma Fimbriata extractsCitrate lyase is what helps to produce fatty acids in our bodies and converts energy and glucose into fat which the body stores.

By suppressing this enzyme, we can burn dietary fat more effectively.

Caralluma is also believed to have an effect on the appetite and when eaten, sends a signal to the brain that the stomach is full.

Does Caralluma Fimbriata Help You Lose Weight?

Evidence suggests that Caralluma Fimbriata may be effective for appetite suppression and helping to reduce fat and calorie intake, helping to quench thirst and increase stamina and endurance.

But the jury is still out as to how effective Caralluma Fimbriata is at burning fat and whether significant weight loss results can be achieved.

Is Caralluma Fimbriata Safe?

  • Constipation
  • Stomach upset
  • Excess Wind (flatulence)

500mg of Caralluma when taken twice a day for 60 days or less appears to be quite safe for the vast majority of people, but for long-term use, its safety has not yet been determined. It’s also not known whether it is safe for pregnant or lactating mothers.* source

Our Thoughts

Caralluma Fimbirata seems to be a decent appetite suppressant and for someone with a short-term weight loss goal, such as wanting to lose small amount of weight; a pound or two to get into their bikini or that little black dress for a special occasion, Caralluma Fimbriata would be ideal.

For those who are truly obese and need to lose a lot of weight over the long-term, we don’t believe Caralluma is suitable based on the lack of evidence surrounding its effectiveness and safety.

If you’re looking for a short-term fix to perhaps cut down on your calorie intake and hopefully lose a few pounds, we would recommend Caralluma Fimbriata.
